"All music is what awakens from you ~ when you are reminded by the instruments."
Walt Whitman
"Playing the guitar is like telling the truth ~ you never have to worry about repeating the same (lie) if you told the truth. You don't have to pretend, or cover up. If someone asks you again, you don't have to think about it or worry about it...because there it is. It's you."
B. B. King

The following is an excerpt from an interview with Musician-Songwriter Janis Ian in the March/April 2006 issue of Performing Songwriter magazine:
Was there something about the guitar that spoke to you early on?
I think the guitar makes a direct connection for a singer in a way that very few instruments can. You're holding the guitar against your chest as you're producing the noise, and certainly that's not true with the piano. That's not to say that I favor the guitar, because they're two different beasts. But the guitar does something different, and if you write with the guitar...I don't know, you can get into the whole Druid concept of guitars being alive. When you sing through the guitar, the guitar sings back to you.
Yes, that intimacy of wood against your body.
Yes, intimacy is a good word for it because the guitar at its best, is a very intimate instrument ~ much more so than an organ or a piano or a bassoon.
