As with any skill, the guitar has very specific techniques that have been developed over the centuries.
Both the right and left hand have numerous positions of placement, and directives for their movements that enable the player to sucessfully achieve the desired results.
However... even though this is true, the public does not recognize good guitar technique from bad. Or, for the most part people are not even aware that specific guitar technique exists.
In general, almost everything we do has recognizable methods that when we see someone performing them incorrectly, we notice this without much difficulty. Examples include such things as typing, playing piano, sports, drivig a car, and many other skills that we do everyday. Why then is it that we do not understand or recognize that guitar would also have it's own techniques that we should be able to easily observe.
Instead, we watch people playing guitar, using some of the worse methods that could not ever be tolerated if it were something else, and yet think they nothing of their guitar performance skills. Something needs to be done to explain and/or demonstrate correct guitar technique so that people recognize its value.
