Many guitar chords are being taught incorrectly by people we believe we can trust as guitar teachers.

Beware, learning many guitar chords with the wrong fingerings is common with many guitar programs, and once you have established any incorrect technique, it is very difficult to change.

Many people are unaware that the chord fingerings they are using are wrong, and restricting their abilities to play the guitar.  In fact, some incorrect chord fingerings are so inhibitive that some individuals may never have the beautiful experience of enjoying the playing of guitar at all.  Remember, the correct use of fingers in various placements and movements is the foundation of numerous other skills, like typing, playing piano, and more.  Why then do we fail to recognize that there would be similar such things pertaining to the guitar.  You cannot just play guitar any old way you want... it just won't work for you.

I have actually had people come to me for lessons who have been trying play the guitar with chords for as long as fifty years, and still struggling to change from one chord to the next in a song.  They thought it was that they were perhaps incapable of doing such a thing because their hands were too large or small, or did not move right, or worse yet had some learning handicap.  With just a few alterations in which fingers they used in the playing of a few key chords, and a little hard work in practicing these correct positions, they were able to finally play.  For once in their lives, they could enjoy the pleasure of playing the guitar... something they had always wanted to do, but had been led astray  by not knowing how.
